The Coast Guard’s own instruction sheet states every uploaded file must be between 10 KB and 100 KB, while several preparation tools quote a stricter 10–50 KB band.
How we handle it: This preset enforces the official 10–100 KB window; files inside it also pass any stricter portal-side check only when they land under 50 KB, so aiming low remains safest.
Slate-in-photo requirement
The photograph must be taken with the candidate holding a black slate bearing their name and the photo date in white chalk — a composition no ordinary passport photo satisfies.
