Face-photo pixel dimensions
The Ministry publishes the 45 by 35 mm passport-photo frame and a domestic online-upload byte limit, but no fixed pixel dimensions for a pre-existing face-photo file.
How we handle it: This preset preserves the official 35:45 frame without inventing a pixel size; the passport application performs the final crop and validation.
Domestic and overseas upload routes
Applications made outside Japan accept a broader format set and require files from 20 KB to 2 MB, unlike the domestic JPG limits.
How we handle it: This preset covers only applications made in Japan. Overseas applicants must follow the overseas route in the Ministry guidance.
Plain background colour
The Ministry requires no background pattern and recommends white, but does not make white mandatory.
How we handle it: The neutral plain-background requirement remains advisory because the shared background enum cannot express a colour-neutral plain background.
